Kindness, compassion and dignity
Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion. We observed positive interactions between staff and patients both in person and on the telephone. Staff displayed an understanding of patients’ needs and showed warmth and compassion to patients.
Patient feedback provided an overall positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Patient comments included that staff were welcoming and attentive, acted with integrity, and showed compassion.
Patients said staff were professional, courteous, and considerate.
Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected.
People received care from staff who were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights, and of the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles, and their wellbeing was supported. General themes from staff feedback included, a supportive team culture where colleagues help one another and concerns can generally be raised and listened to. They reported receiving both positive and constructive feedback and valued the relationships with colleagues and patients. Opportunities for career development were identified, and staff were keen to explore initiatives such as providing care for people experiencing homelessness.
Areas for improvement included updating or reviewing some clinical equipment, redecorating and modernising parts of the building, and increasing the size of the staff room. While staff felt able to raise concerns, some expressed only moderate confidence that all concerns would be acted upon.
