Judgements
Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 28 April 2025.
We found the practice had met regulations.
Infection control procedures in place were effective.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.
Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.
SplenDental Care is in Leicestershire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 4 treatment rooms.At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 13 staff, of which there were 3 dentists (including 1 foundation dentist), 6 dental nurses (including 2 trainee dental nurses), 3 dental therapists, 1 dental hygienist and a practice manager. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses and the practice manager.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 12 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, “Everyone at SplenDental Care have gone above and beyond in looking after me when I have had appointments. I'm a tricky patient because I'm on blood thinners and can be quite nervous but every time I've had work done, they've put me at ease, explained the process thoroughly, and constantly reassured me that everything is ok as well as checking to make sure I'm feeling ok myself. Going to the dentist can, and probably always will be a nervous experience, but at SplenDental Care I always feel at ease that I am in safe hands and I strongly recommend them. I can't thank them enough for always looking after me the way they do.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “Fantastic service from reception staff, dental nurses and dentist. Always giving sound advice, communication and best practice. The practice always runs on time and has impeccable hygiene.”
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Comments included, “My husband and I had our first appointment with Splen last Tuesday. We were greeted very well by reception staff, the dentist and dental nurse. The dentist asked lots of questions about our health, diet and whether we had any trouble with our teeth. After examining our teeth, which we both felt comfortable with, the dentist informed us of the condition of our teeth and gave advice for the best way to keep them healthy. She explained to me, in detail, the treatment that was required and made sure I was ok about it being carried out. We both felt she had plenty of time for us and we are very pleased that we have joined this dental practice.”
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. Comments included, “Friendly receptionist. Seen on time. Excellent dental nurse and dentist. Answered my questions and advised me on further treatment. Fitted me in for the initial stages so I didn't have to return twice. Reasonable cost and explanation of the service.”
Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources. Comments included, “The entire team at SplenDental Care from the dentists to the dental nurses have been extremely kind, helpful and caring since I have joined them. My whole family has switched to this practice over the last year and the service has been exceptional. We receive regular appointment reminders, they are courteous and accommodating when I need to reschedule, the checkups are thorough and the team make an effort to get to know us as people and advise us accordingly to help us maintain good dental health where possible. The team are also very patient and answer all our questions in detail. They also take the time to demonstrate how to brush and floss correctly, what equipment is best and how often they should be used (mouthwash, toothpaste etc). They are very mindful of our comfort and do their best to allay any fears we may have during any dental procedures we have to undergo. All in all, I cannot praise them enough and continue to recommend them to friends and family when they are searching for an honest trustworthy dental practise.”
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
