Inspection carried out on 24 April 2014

During a routine inspection

Patients’ diversity was respected. We saw that the practice had wheelchair access. For example, the reception area allowed room for a wheelchair user to turn and one of the practice’s treatment rooms was located on the ground floor. When we spoke with a patient who was also a wheelchair user, they spoke positively about how staff addressed their needs.

Patients were protected against the risk of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care. The principal dentist was able to talk us through a selection of patient records and evidence that assessments had taken place and medical histories updated.

Staff were able to describe possible types of abuse such as physical and emotional abuse. They knew how and to whom they would report a safeguarding alert.

We saw that the waiting area and treatment rooms were clean and clutter free. None of the patients we spoke with expressed concerns about overall cleanliness and typically described the environment as “nice and clean.”

Patients were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were maintained. For example, patient notes we looked at showed that medical histories had been updated at each visit, as necessary.
