Our view of the service

Community Dental Services CIC is contracted to provide a full range of NHS dental health services to prisoners at HMP Warren Hill.

At our previous inspection in February 2025, we found the management and oversight of decontamination procedures, and other areas of management required improvement. We requested an action plan from the provider in relation to Regulation 17, Good governance.

The purpose of this inspection was to determine if the provider was meeting the legal requirements and regulations under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and patients were receiving well-led care and treatment.

During this inspection, we looked at 1 quality statement and reviewed the breach of regulation from the last inspection. We spoke with the provider’s prisons’ operations manager, a governance and complaints manager, and a dental nurse. We reviewed the provider's systems and procedures.

We found that good improvements had been made, and the provider was no longer in breach of the regulation. Decontamination of dirty instrument procedures now met the requirements of national guidelines, the patient complaints’ procedure had been updated and better publicised to prisoners, and the local rules for the X-ray unit reflected current arrangements.

These improvements must now be embedded and sustained in the long term.
