Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 16 and 23 May 2025. Walsingham Support - Langdon Park is a supported living service for up to 7 people with learning disabilities and autistic people. The service provides care and support to people living in one 'supported living' setting, so that they can live as independently as possible. People's care and housing are provided under separate contractual agreements. CQC does not regulate premises used for supported living; this inspection looked at aspects of people's personal care and support. At the time of our inspection 6 people were living in the service and receiving a regulated activity.

We had previously rated the service inadequate (published 25 April 2023), and it had six breaches of regulation, which led us to place it in Special Measures. After the inspection the provider completed an action plan. We carried out this inspection to confirm improvements and compliance with legal requirements.

One inspector carried out this announced, comprehensive inspection, reviewing all five key questions. We found that the provider had made significant improvements: staff assessed and mitigated risks, care plans guided safe practice, and the service had enough staff to ensure people's safety and meet their needs. The service also supported people to have choice and control and involved them in planning their care.

Based on these positive findings, we no longer rated the service as inadequate overall or in any key questions, and it was no longer in breach of regulations. We therefore removed the service from Special Measures and improved its overall rating to good.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People received the right support. People’s needs were assessed and staff supported them in line with their care plans and individual preferences. The provider ensured that staff were safely recruited, suitably trained and supervised by managers. Whilst there had been a reduction in staff numbers since our last inspection, there were enough staff available during the day and overnight to support people safely. Staff administered medicines safely, stored them securely, recorded administration accurately. People’s risks were assessed and managed to avoid the risk of harm, and good hygiene practices were followed to prevent the risk and spread of infection.

People received the right care. Staff sought people’s consent before providing care and support. People were safeguarded from abuse and improper treatment and staff treated people with dignity and respect. Where it was necessary to deprive people of their liberty to keep them safe, this was lawful and reviewed the appropriate health and social care professionals. Timely referrals were made to healthcare professionals to ensure people’s changing needs were assessed and met.

The service developed the right culture. Staff promoted people’s independence and supported them to develop their daily living skills. People chose the activities they wanted to engage in and staff supported this. The provider encouraged people, relatives and staff to share their views about improving the service.
