Our view of the service

We carried out this assessment between 13 March and 28 April 2025. Ringway Mews is a residential and nursing home providing personal care and accommodation to up to 150 people, across 6 separate units and is located in Wythenshawe, Manchester. At the time of our inspection there were 148 people using the service.

This was the first assessment since Springcare became the provider of Ringway Mews, registering with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on 3 October 2024.The provider was in breach of 3 legal regulations relating to seeking people’s consent, safe care and treatment and good governance.

Risks to people were not always effectively managed and appropriate systems were not always in place to obtain consent from people, or their relatives. Some areas of the home weren’t always clean and certain improvements were required regarding people’s medication.

Accurate records were not always maintained and we identified lots of missing information within people’s care plans. The home was in the process of merging from paper based to electronic record keeping which was causing some of the problems for staff. Audits of people’s care plans had not identified similar findings to those we found during the assessment.

People and their relatives said the service was safe and we were told there were enough staff to care for people. Staff were recruited safely and the building was maintained appropriately.

The home worked well with other organisations and assessments of people’s needs were undertaken when they moved into Ringway Mews. Overall, the feedback we received about the care provided at the home was positive. People said staff were kind and caring towards them and we saw this from our own observations. We observed some people sitting in chairs for long periods without being asked if they would like to be taken to the toilet. This could impact on people’s dignity.

We received positive feedback about management, leadership and the culture at the home. However, some staff said they didn’t always feel well treated, or respected by the management team. Staff enjoyed their roles and some had worked at the home for long periods of time.

People's experience of this service

People living at the home and their relatives said they felt the service was safe. People were referred to other health professionals when there were concerns about their safety.

We received mixed feedback from people about the quality of food, although relatives felt people had gained weight since living at the home which had been positive. Relatives said they felt involved with people’s care planning and any reviews that took place.

Everybody we spoke with made positive comments about the care provided and the caring nature of the staff team. People said they were well treated by staff.

Relatives said staff were very responsive to people’s care needs. Complaints were handled appropriately and there were systems in place regarding end of life care.

Relatives said they knew the manager and actions were taken if they raised any concerns. Relatives said they were able to attend meetings to share their views.
