Our view of the service

Date of assessment 23 September until 30 September 2025.

This was the first assessment of the service since registering with a new provider.

Joseph Lodge is a care home registered to support up to 39 people. This includes older people, people living with dementia, sensory impairment, physical disability and people with a mental health diagnosis. The service is purpose-built set over 2 floors in the local community with a large external space.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. People were cared for safely by staff who had been recruited and employed after appropriate checks had been completed. Staff received the correct training and supervision to support people safely. People were supported to take their medicines by staff who had the correct skills to support them.

Care was person-centred and promoted people’s well-being, communication needs, dignity, privacy and human rights. People were supported to have fluid and nutrition that met their needs and preferences. Health was monitored with the involvement of the appropriate healthcare professionals. Referrals to appropriate health services were made promptly.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

People were supported to take part in social activities they enjoyed and to access the community. People were supported by staff who engaged with them in a kind and compassionate way.

The provider and manager had good oversight of the service, they had encouraged a culture of learning and development. There were systems in place to monitor and review care and people’s experience at the service.
