There should be enough members of staff to keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs (outcome 13)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by sufficient numbers of appropriate staff.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 13 June 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with staff.

Our judgement

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people’s needs.

Reasons for our judgement

There were enough qualified, experienced staff to meet people’s needs.

The staff team at the practice was made up of one dentist, two part time dental nurses and a receptionist.

One the day of our visit one dentist, one dental nurse and the receptionist were working. We saw that people were not kept waiting very long and that the dentist had support from the dental nurse.

If the dentist was not available, for example through illness, the practice had made arrangements for other dentists, from other practices, to cover any emergencies.

Staff told us that there was a very low turnover of staff and that they enjoy working at this practice.
