Kindness, compassion and dignity

Regulations met

Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion. We observed positive interactions between staff and patients both in person and on the telephone. Staff displayed an understanding of patients’ needs and showed warmth and compassion to patients.

Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. One patient told us, “My family and I have been with this practice for over 20 years and have never had any issues at all with the care/services. Always get very professional care from [dentist] and have no complaints whatsoever.”

Patient comments included that staff were welcoming and attentive, acted with integrity, and showed compassion.

Patients said staff were professional, courteous, and considerate. One patient told us, “Receptionists are efficient and helpful. Dental nurses are highly responsive and considerate. My dentist is patient and professional, a good listener and an excellent practitioner. I have received the highest level of dental care throughout my life and would not hesitate to recommend him. He is a clear communicator which offers great reassurance and makes me feel like I have agency in my dental care.”

Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected.

We were provided with a patient survey, the results of which were positive. Feedback from the Foundation Dentist survey also demonstrated high levels of satisfaction. Responses received through the Friends and Family Test (FFT) were consistently positive, with patients rating the service as either good or very good. In addition, the practice had received several thank you cards from patients, providing further evidence of positive patient experiences and satisfaction with the care provided. Patient comments on surveys included, “The best service is given here without question,” “Excellent practice and my dentist is so caring, will recommend,” and “From the initial reception with [receptionist] to the dentistry from [dentist] very friendly and professional service.”

People received care from staff who were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights, and of the importance of privacy and confidentiality.

Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles, and their wellbeing was supported. One staff member said, “In this practice we are being supported and encouraged to thrive and develop further. All members of staff are supportive and helpful, we work well together as a team and communicate effectively, we are encouraged to share ideas or concerns. All this contributes to good staff morale and a sense of job satisfaction, making it a great place to work.”
