Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 22 July 2025.
We found the practice had not met all regulations.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures did not always reflect current legislation.
There was scope for improvement with establishing a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Staff did not manage medicines and prescriptions in line with current guidance.
The practice did not have effective systems to review and investigate incidents and accidents.
The practice did not handle complaints effectively.
The practice is in Etwall in Derbyshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
The practice was accessed via steps and a portable ramp was available for people using wheelchairs or those with pushchairs. Car parking spaces were available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 5 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 24 staff, of which there were 5 dentists, 11 dental nurses, 2 dental therapists, 2 dental hygienists, 2 receptionists, a treatment coordinator and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 4 dental nurses, 2 receptionists, the treatment coordinator and the practice manager.
The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 Good Governance. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.

People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 11 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, “ Superb service from reception to treatment. I cannot fault anything with this practice.” “Great experiences here always.” Also, “Very helpful staff and extremely friendly, welcoming and reassuring receptionists.” “I have always found Etwall Dental Practice staff to be polite, friendly and professional.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
We found that patient feedback and experience did not always correspondence with our observations during the inspection.
