Safe environments
The provider had made improvements to the systems in place for the management of fire safety across the premises. A comprehensive fire safety risk assessment was undertaken on 13 January 2025 by a competent person. The risk assessment included all requirements as outlined in the relevant guidance and legislation, such as the overall size and layout of the premises, appropriate fire detection and warning systems, adequacy of staff fire safety training and consideration of the specific needs of vulnerable people, including those with mobility issues.
The fire risk assessment dated 13 January had a series of recommendations to enhance the fire safety in the premises. The practice had completed the majority of the recommended improvements and had a detailed schedule of remedial work, with contractors engaged and timelines set for completion for the remaining actions. The practice also had clear plans for the ongoing review and management of fire safety measures.
Fire exit routes were clearly signposted and free from obstruction. The practice had also installed emergency lighting to ensure emergency routes and exits were well-lit. During our previous inspection in January 2025, we noted combustibles in an area close to a heat generating machine. These had now been cleared.
The practice conducted regular in-house checks of all fire safety equipment and maintained accurate records of these checks. The provider told us all staff will receive refresher training to ensure they are confident in operating and testing the newly installed equipment and responding appropriately in an emergency situation. This training is planned for when all fire safety remedial work has been completed.
Improvements had been made to ensure hazardous substances and clinical waste were stored safely. In addition, the practice had carried out a risk assessment to minimise the risk that could be caused from the substances hazardous to health.
Emergency equipment and medicines were available in accordance with national guidance. The practice had implemented effective weekly checks to ensure missing or out-of-date items could be quickly identified and replaced.
Safe and effective staffing
The practice had implemented improved arrangements to ensure staff training was up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals. This included the implementation of a spread sheet for each individual team member, allowing for effective monitoring of training completion and renewal dates. The practice had also signed up to a training portal, providing staff with access to a range of learning modules. A dashboard was available through the portal, enabling management to track the completion of mandatory training and to identify any outstanding learning requirements. All members of staff had completed training in modules relevant to their role.
