Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 29 July 2026.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Copmanthorpe Dental Centre is part of Thorpe Dental Group Limited a dental group provider. The practice is in York and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 14 staff. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 receptionist and the practice manager.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We reviewed patient feedback we received, and feedback routinely obtained by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, “Always a super friendly service when I visit”.
“I have been using this dentist for many years and have always found the service to be of the highest quality. All the staff are friendly and professional. The text reminders a week beforehand are especially useful”.
“Excellent service and care.”
“In all aspects of care, I've received from this dental practice I have no concerns.”
“We cannot rate our own experience with [the dentist] enough she is fantastic, with our child who loves coming!”
“Reception always lovely and friendly and the dentist is the same, listens and no pressure. Reassuring, kind gentle and calm nature.”
“Received excellent service from both my Dentist and hygienist, any concerns I had were addressed with care and thoughtfulness.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
“The practice is always clean and makes it feel a very safe environment to come to.”
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
“In the event of an emergency there is always a service that can be reached and every effort is made to find an appointment to suit. We are very happy with the service.”
“Booking and reservation are well run, with good reminder facilities.”
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

“I feel the examinations and treatment are fully explained prior and during my appointments.”
“Dentists and hygienists always put me at ease and explain things thoroughly.”
Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
