Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 30 September 2026. The provider, Barnsley Healthcare Federation CIC – HSCA provides extended hours GP services and a home visiting service to the population of Barnsley. We conducted this assessment to follow up on a breach of regulation found at their last assessment on 24 February 2026 when it was rated good for key questions safe, effective, caring and responsive and requires improvement for well-led. We carried out this assessment on 30 September 2026 and looked at the quality statements in the safe and well-led key questions which contributed to the breach of regulation. Since the last assessment, the service had made significant improvements and was no longer in breach of regulation. We found that the service was meeting the quality statements we assessed and will remain rated good in safe and is now rated good in well-led. As the other key questions were not reviewed during this assessment, the rating of good will be carried forward from the previous assessment and the overall rating of the service will remain Good.
The service operates from the main site at BHF Priory Centre, Pontefract Road, Lundwood, Barnsley, S71 5PN with a branch site at Lakeside Surgery based at Goldthorpe Green, Rotherham, S63 9EH. We visited both sites as part of this assessment. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
