The practice had a governance system that included policies and procedures, which were accessible to staff and were reviewed on a regular basis.

Systems and processes were embedded, and the inspection did not highlight any significant issues or omissions. Areas requiring improvement were acted on immediately.

Staff were aware of the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations.

There were effective processes for identifying and managing risks and for receiving and acting on safety alerts. There were well-established processes for reporting, investigating, and learning from incidents.

The practice had systems and processes for learning, quality assurance and continuous improvement. This included undertaking audits according to recognised guidance.Audit templates were comprehensive and supported effective oversight.

Concerns and complaints were responded to appropriately, and outcomes were discussed to share learning and for improvement.

Staff had clear responsibilities, and systems of accountability to support good governance.

Staff feedback was obtained through meetings, surveys, and informal discussions. Staff participated in regular pulse surveys, enabling the service to identify areas for improvement and take action in response to feedback. Staff were encouraged to offer suggestions for improvements, and they said these were listened to and acted upon, where appropriate.

The practice gathered feedback from patients and responded accordingly. Feedback forms were sent out to all patients automatically 3 days following their appointments. Feedback was reviewed by the practice manager on a daily basis.

The practice had taken steps to improve environmental sustainability. For example, by recycling when possible and turning off equipment when not in use. The practice regularly discussed sustainability within their staff meetings.

The inspection team learned that staff regularly visited local schools to promote good oral health and provide oral health education to children. As part of this initiative, they distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, and toothbrushing timers to encourage positive oral hygiene habits from an early age.

Staff worked well together as a cohesive team and demonstrated a strong sense of camaraderie, with plans to take part in a charity walk as a team.
