Our view of the service

Date of assessment 17 February 2026 to 10 March 2023 ASL services is a supported living service providing personal care for autistic people, people with a learning disability and/or physical disability. At the time of the inspection 7 people were living at the service.

Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where staff do support people with personal care, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of this assessment the service was supporting 6 people with the regulated activity of personal care. The provider of the service was also the registered manager. We have referred to them throughout the report as the provider.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The provider had a good understanding of what the service needed to do to best support people, and this ethos was supported and promoted by all staff within the organisation. The provider was working in line with this guidance.

People, their relatives and staff spoke well of the service. People were supported by kind, compassionate and caring staff. Staff knew people well and used their knowledge of people to improve their independence and develop their skills and enhance their lives. People were supported by staff to make their own decisions and choices. They were involved in planning their own care. People’s dignity and privacy were respected and promoted by those supporting them.

The provider and staff ensured people did not experience inequality or discrimination due to their learning disability or autism. The staff team worked together to ensure people were not prevented from doing what they wanted to do and achieving their goals.

Staff received good support from the provider and the management team. All staff spoke highly of the support they received. They felt valued and enjoyed working at the service. The provider and management team demonstrated good leadership of the service. People’s needs, preferences and wishes were the motivation of all they did. They led by example which meant people received care and support tailored to their needs. Quality assurance systems were in place which were used to drive improvements at the service.

Risks to people were managed safely. People were protected from the risk of abuse, harm or discrimination. There were enough staff working each shift, who had been safely recruited, and received ongoing training and support. Staff ensured people received support from appropriate health and social care professionals when they needed it. Environmental risks were identified and mitigated.

People's experience of this service

Not everyone living at the service were able to speak with us, but we spoke with people who consented to speak with us. We also spoke with people’s relatives to understand what their experience of being supported by the ASL services was.

People and their relatives were positive about the care and support they received. People told us they were very happy living at the service. They told us about opportunities to meet new people before they moved in and what their own plans were for the future.

People’s relatives told us staff were kind and caring and their loved ones were well supported and their needs were met. Some relatives expressed concerns that as the service grew the level of support and staff consistency may reduce. We discussed this for the provider, who was aware of the concerns. They told us this would be discussed with families to offer reassurance.
