Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 19 March 2026. Haywood Oaks Care Home is a residential care home providing support to adults of any age including those living with dementia. Haywood Oaks Care Home was last rated good (published 19 March 2018). We carried out this assessment due to the age of the previous rating.
At this assessment we found the provider was in breach of the legal regulation relating to safe care and treatment and governance.
People’s needs were not always assessed and recorded accurately. Medicines were not always administered safely. For example, expired medicines were found in use and staff did not record when people had been administered topical medicines such as creams or pain relief gel they were prescribed. Convection heaters throughout the property put people at risk of scalding and equipment used for specific health care needs were not always stored appropriate to ensure infection prevention control risks were mitigated.
Staff were not always recruited safely and ongoing checks to ensure staff were suitable to work with vulnerable people were not completed. Records relating to people’s fluid and nutritional intake were not done accurately or consistency. This meant the provider could not evidence that people had enough to eat or drink.
Audits and quality monitoring systems used by the management team had failed to identify all the issued found on assessment. Where improvements had been identified actions plan had not been updated to show how changes and improvement had been implemented or monitored.
Staff treated people with kindness and dignity. Staff were knowledgeable about to communicate with people in their chosen way, and we observed staff asking people for consent prior to helping them with their care needs. Staff told us the registered manager was approachable and that they received regular supervision and given the opportunity to raise concerns if needed.

People's experience of this service
We received mixed feedback from people living at Haywood Oaks Care Home and their relatives. While everyone we spoke with told us they felt safe living at the home, some people stated they had never been asked for their feedback about the quality of the care they received, nor had they been included in reviews of their care plans.
People said staff were, “Friendly” and “Pleasant”. However, some people raised concern about how staff availability affected them being supported with their care in their chosen way. For example, 1 person described how they would like a shower daily but were currently only supported weekly. People said there were daily activities available that were of interest to them and they were asked for new ideas of what they want to do. Everyone we spoke with said they would recommend Haywood Oaks Care Home as a good place to live.
