The judgement for Involving people to manage risks is based on the latest evidence we assessed for the Safe key question.

Safe environments

Regulations met

The practice leaders were able to demonstrate that processes in place effectively identified and managed risks. Processes and procedures that were in place were now better understood by staff and were being followed and applied.

The provider had commissioned further electrical works to bring the condition of the fixed wiring in the building to satisfactory standards, addressing risk we had highlighted at our previous inspection.

We found that local rules for radiography equipment had been updated and now reflected the place and position of each piece of radiographic equipment.

Safe and effective staffing

Regulations met

The practice had a recruitment policy and procedures that reflected relevant legislation, to help them employ suitable staff, including agency or locum staff. Where any recruitment records had not previously been held, these had been gathered and stored securely. The provider confirmed that in any future recruitment, these procedures would be adhered to.

Processes for checks on training and continuing professional development were now in place and applied consistently. The provider was able to show that dental professionals visiting the practice had the required qualifications, indemnity and that their training and continuing professional development requirements were being met.

Staff with extended duties were appropriately trained to enable them to fulfil their role.

Infection prevention and control

Regulations met

The practice had infection control procedures that reflected published guidance.

The provider had made improvements by ensuring all staff were aware of the requirement to keep the doors to the decontamination room closed. Previously, we had found that a door to this room had been wedged open. This was done to help keep the room cool. At our follow-up inspection on 26 January 2026, we found door wedges had been removed and a ventilation fan had been installed, reflecting guidance on ventilation in decontamination rooms.

At our inspection of 19 August 2025, we found staff did not consistently follow the Sharps Policy, which required dentists/clinicians to use safer sharps or dismantle traditional sharps themselves. At our follow-up inspection of 26 January 2026, we found all staff had undertaken further sharps training to support the policy in place.

The practice had completed a further infection control audit. This demonstrated that the practice was operating safely in relation to infection control procedures. We noted that the correct posters were displayed in the decontamination room and in each surgery, giving details of occupational health contacts and support, in the event of a sharps injury.

Medicines optimisation
