Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 15 June to 28 July 2026
Deneholme Care Centre provides care and support to people so they can live as independently as possible. The service supports autistic people and people with a learning disability. At the time of the assessment, 12 people used the care home service.
This was the first assessment of this newly registered service.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
There were enough suitably recruited staff, who were exceptionally kind and caring, had received appropriate training and felt supported
Medicines were well managed. People’s nutritional needs were well supported. The provider promoted a culture which encouraged people to pursue their own interests and make choices about how they lived their lives. This supported people to develop greater independence and achieve positive outcomes which enhanced their quality of life.
The service was clean and tidy. We asked the provider to address a couple of issues to enhance infection control procedures, which they confirmed they would.
Consent was obtained from people whenever possible and capacity assessments and best interests decisions made when a person lacked capacity to give their consent.
The provider maintained quality assurance checks to ensure the service remained safe and effective. Leaders and staff worked extremely well together, particularly with other organisations to help people achieve good outcomes and remain healthy. The registered manager listened to our feedback and took immediate action, including making the necessary updates to records and other paperwork.
People's experience of this service
We spoke with people and undertook observations using SOFI. SOFI is a way of observing care over a designated period of time to support the assessment. It is mainly used with people who find it difficult to express their views of care or treatment. This enabled us to observe care and support being provided, and to gather information.
People were happy and well cared for. A person said, “The staff are very kind and respectful, and they treat me with the dignity I deserve.” Relatives were positive about the care and support their family member received.
People were safe, and concerns were handled appropriately. A relative said “They are definitely safe and I believe we were lucky when we managed to secure a bed.”
People and their relatives spoke very positively about the kindness, patience and dedication of staff. Relatives had built strong, trusting relationships with staff and worked together to help people enjoy a good quality of life.
