People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We carried out a visit on 12 March 2014, observed how people were being cared for and talked with staff.

Our judgement

People who attended the practice were protected because staff had received relevant training in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Reasons for our judgement

When we visited the service in December 2013, we found that only one member of staff had a certificate in place to demonstrate they had completed relevant safeguarding training. The date of the certificate had expired meaning that the training needed to be refreshed. This meant that there was a risk that staff would not have up to date knowledge of how to manage a safeguarding concern if it arose.

We returned to the service in March 2014 and found that all staff had completed online safeguarding training and we viewed certificates as evidence of this. Staff that we spoke with told us they found the training useful and felt able to identify and act on any concerns that they may have.
