Overview

Inspection carried out on 12 March 2014

During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We did not speak with people who used the service on this occasion. This inspection took place to check that action had been taken in relation to the concerns we found at our last inspection in December 2013. When we inspected the service in December 2013, we found that staff had received no training in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. One of the dentists had completed a course but the training required refreshing, according to the date on the certificate. When we returned to the service in March 2014, we found that all staff had completed online training and had certificates in place as evidence of this.

In December 2013, we found that the procedures in place for cleaning and decontamination of surgical instruments were not fully compliant with current guidance; the Health Technical Memorandum 01-05 (HTM). This is guidance that all dentists must follow in order to ensure that their procedures minimise the risks of cross infection. When we returned to the service, we found that steps had been taken to improve procedures and they met with the requirements of the HTM.
