Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 30 May 2025 to 16 June 2025. Minehead Medical Centre is a GP practice that delivers services to approximately 11,700 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states the ethnic make-up of the practice population is 97.75% white and 2.25% black, Asian, mixed and other. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the first decile (1 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report. We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions. At this assessment, we found the service were working to understand their patient population and were passionate about developing and implementing systems and processes to improve health outcomes.

People's experience of this service

The NHS Friends and Family Test showed people were satisfied with services. There was an active Patient Participation Group (PPG), a group of people who are patients at the practice who represented the views of the people using the service. Representatives of the PPG told us the service had shared the challenges they faced and felt the service listened to their feedback. We asked the practice to share a link with people so they could share their feedback with CQC. We received 165 pieces of mixed feedback, of which, 59% were positive. For example, someone told us ‘I have always found staff at Minehead Medical Centre to be polite, professional and helpful at all times’

Whilst our assessment did not find any elements of care not meeting the expected standard, 78% of the negative feedback we received indicated difficulty in accessing care, support, and treatment in a way that met needs or preferences.

We noted that the most recent National GP survey results pre-dated the current provider taking over the service so have not been referenced as part of this assessment.
