Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This was the first inspection for this service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

Staff were respectful in their interactions and demonstrated a caring approach that helped the person feel valued and at ease. They were supported in a way that protected their privacy and dignity, including during personal care and when discussing sensitive matters. Relationships between staff and the person was positive, and staff took time to communicate in a calm and reassuring manner. Relatives described how the care was delivered in a kind, respectful and compassionate manner.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

Staff treated people as individuals and made sure the care, support and treatment offered met their needs and preferences. They took account of the person’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Staff valued everyone’s opinions.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

Staff promoted people’s independence. They made sure the person knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Staff encouraged the person to make day‑to‑day decisions about their lives, including how and when they received support. The person was involved in decisions about their care and were given information in a way they could understand. Staff respected the person’s wishes and supported them to do as much for themselves as they were able, promoting confidence and autonomy.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Staff always responded to the person’s immediate needs in a timely and compassionate manner. Staff were able to adapt their routines, which ensured care delivery was flexible and responsive people’s changing needs. The management team worked closely with health and social care professionals and acted as strong advocates who actively addressed people’s unmet health needs, including escalating concerns where responses were delayed. Relatives and professionals were positive about the provider’s responsiveness and coordination of care.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The management team cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, which supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff described a positive, supportive working environment where they felt valued, listened to and protected. The management team were approachable and responsive. When needed, staff were provided with additional support provided following incidents, and wellbeing was prioritised. Training and development opportunities helped staff to build skills in trauma‑informed, person‑centred and safeguarding practice, which directly contributed to consistent and compassionate care. Staff felt confident to raise concerns and reported these were acted on promptly. This positive culture supported continuity of care and strong relationships between staff and the person using the service. One staff member said, “I do believe the management have responded very positively to my needs.”
