Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 13 May 2026 to 20 May 2026. Trewartha Residential and Nursing Home is a ‘care home’ providing support for a maximum of 37 older people and those living with dementia. On the day of the inspection, 33 people were living at the service.
People were protected from all forms of abuse and staff had the skills to meet people’s needs.
People’s needs were identified and risks associated with their specific needs were assessed.
The service was clean, and staff understood how to manage infection control risks. All necessary checks had been completed to ensure the safety of the environment and equipment.
Staff were safely recruited and appropriately deployed to ensure people’s needs were promptly met.
Medicines were managed safely.
Staff were kind, compassionate and enjoyed their role caring for people. They told us they were well supported by the registered manager who listened to them and acted upon suggestions they made.
Staff understood the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). Best interest decisions were always carried out regarding specific decisions. All necessary applications had been made to the local authority.
There were systems and processes to support the registered manager to identify and address quality concerns and risks to the organisation.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives were complimentary of the staff. People and relatives told us staff were “very patient and caring”. People had confidence in the management of the home and any concerns they raised had been acted upon.
We observed staff were attentive to people’s needs and treated people with respect and dignity. People had access to group activities, as well as time alone with staff, jigsaw puzzles and separate lounges and a ‘bar’ in which people could welcome relatives and visitors.
Activities had been organised by staff. In addition, people were able to access the community, and people could choose days out, including trips to the beach. People told us they enjoyed the activities and “There is always something going on.”
