Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 30 September to 7 October 2026. Opal House is a residential care home providing accommodation for up to 5 people who require personal care and supporting people who may have dementia and mental health conditions. At the time of our inspection there were 3 people receiving a regulated activity and living at the service.
People were supported by a consistent and skilled staff team, who knew them well. We observed kind and caring interactions and a genuine focus on meaningful relationships. Recruitment was managed safely and staff received inductions, supervision and training.
Staff assessed people’s needs prior to admission to the service. Processes were in place to ensure staff monitored people’s care and support. As a result, we saw evidence that people’s health and wellbeing had improved and their independence increased.
Care plans highlighted people’s diverse needs and preferences. The management team and staff demonstrated a strong commitment to person-centred support, care and improving outcomes and opportunities for people.
The provider had a clear shared vision and strategy, and the home was well supported by the registered manager and wider quality team. The provider completed robust programme of audits and checks, any shortfalls were addressed promptly.
People's experience of this service
We observed a consistent and experienced staff team who knew people well and had developed positive and trusting relationships with them, creating an environment where kindness and respect were central to the care provided.
Staff supported people to engage with their hobbies; we observed one discussion with a person who enjoyed going to buy scratch cards each day and one person told us about their fitness journey and how they enjoyed going with staff to the gym.
One person said, “I feel safe and staff look after me. Been here a year and half and I am doing well.”
We found the service to be welcoming and homely. A relative confirmed this saying, “Opal house is such a positive match for [relative name], I would be concerned if they ever left there as they are doing such a good job supporting [relative name].”
One person told us there was involved in their care planning, alongside their advocate with the aim of becoming more independent.
Relatives felt the staff team was accessible. One relative said, "The staff team and management are totally accessible, they are always available to have a chat. They have been fantastic."
