Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 12 November 2025

Orchard Manor Care Home is a service which provides accommodation and personal care for up to 66 people, some of whom may be living with dementia, physical disabilities and some of whom who may have serious health conditions. At the time of our inspection, 31 people were living in the home.

Staff knew people well and had a good understanding of how they liked their care to be delivered. Staff were trained in how to recognise potential abuse and knew how to report any concerns. The registered manager worked with the local authority to address any concerns, and reviewed accidents and incidents to identify learning for the staff team.

Although staff told us they felt there were not enough of them, and our observations supported this at times, people told us this had not directly impacted their care.

Staff used appropriate personal protective equipment to help prevent infections from spreading, and they also knew how to respond in the event of an emergency, such as a fire.

Staff worked with external healthcare professionals as well as local community groups for the benefit of people, and they looked for ways in which to improve people’s experiences and well-being.

Staff treated people as individuals, and there was a positive culture within the service which helped to ensure people were happy living at Orchard Manor Care Home.

However, we found the service in breach of on 1 regulation in relation to good governance. Despite the governance arrangements in place, we picked up some required improvements that had not been identified through these processes. This included some poor record keeping and where people’s care plans which were inconsistent or incorrect as well as an inconsistent approach to person-centred care.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
