Responsive
Responsive – this means we looked for evidence that the provider met people’s needs.
At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s needs were met through good organisation and delivery.
This service scored 72 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Person-centred Care
The provider did not always make sure people were at the centre of their care and treatment choices and they did not always work in partnership with people, to decide how to respond to any relevant changes in people’s needs and ensure care records were up to date and accurate.
The quality and contemporaneousness of people’s care records varied. Some care plans were person-centred and detailed, providing clear guidance for staff to follow. However, information in others had not been updated timely, and they contained older or unnecessary information, which meant up to date guidance was not easy to locate, often being found at the very end of the care plan or within the review section. We also identified inconsistent or contradictory information within care records, for example stating a person was ‘able to weight bear and use a stand aid’ in one section and ‘immobile and requires use of a hoist for all transfers’ in another. There were instances of contradictory information in each of the 4 care records we reviewed.
Staff had a good understanding of what person-centred care meant and how this should be provided. Comments included, “It’s about meeting a person’s needs, treating them as an individual as everybody is different” and “Providing residents with care how they want this, according to their care plans. If they can’t tell us what they would like, we ask their family members.”
