Our view of the service
St Anne’s Nursing Home (St Anne’s) is a 65 bed care and nursing home for older people. We carried out an assessment of this service between 12 May 2026 and 5 June 2026. This included a combination of 3 on-site inspection days and remote assessment. St Anne’s is part of Blackberry Hill Ltd.
This was a comprehensive inspection carried out due to the age of the existing rating.
We found people were safe at St Anne’s. Care plans and risk assessments were thorough and person centred. The environment people lived in was safe and free from hazards. The service took action to prevent safeguarding events from occurring and learned from any incidents or complaints.
We observed caring practice and staff who knew the people who lived at St Anne’s well. People were treated with dignity and respect. People and their relatives were involved in their care and well communicated with. The service worked in partnerships with people and partner agencies such as commissioners and healthcare teams. Staff teams were knowledgeable and there was a positive culture with everyone supporting each other. Staff achievements and commitment were recognised and staff were encouraged to advance their skills.
People were engaged in varied and meaningful activities both on the premises and in the wider local community.
The registered manager at the service used innovative ways to raise funds and improve the environment. There was an open culture where people and staff were encouraged to share ideas and feedback to both recognise achievement as well as to drive improvement.
People's experience of this service
We spoke to a combination of people and their relatives. Overall people told us they felt safe at St. Anne’s. A relative said. “I could not wish for anything better. They look after [them] very well.”
People and relatives had opportunities to provide feedback. This included regular meetings as well as suggestion boxes. People were involved in their care planning and reviews. Although familiar with how to make a complaint, most people told us they would feel confident to raise any concerns directly with staff. People told us they felt listened to by staff and leaders.
People said they felt staff knew them well. They felt staff had the skills and knowledge to provide the care that was needed and told us staff were not rushed, “They are very patient. We have been here when they have attended [relative] and they do take their time,” and, “They don't rush me. They are very patient.”
People were happy with the activities offered as stimulation, the theatre was particularly popular, “I do get to go to a community theatre once a week for singing, and words are put up on a screen when we do this.”
People told us they are happy with the food that is provided and that there is a choice. Family members said they are kept well updated if there are any ongoing health concerns and are contacted when anything of significance arises.
People felt staff supported them to maintain as much independence as possible.
“It feels like [relative] has landed in a nice place having witnessed other homes. They didn't seem as spacious and as well kept. It does feel like there are a number of people here who create a sense of community.”
