Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 22 October 2025 to 06 November 2025.
Baycroft Flitwick is a care home supporting people who may be living with dementia, a physical disability, mental health support needs or a sensory impairment. The service provides accommodation for people who need personal care or nursing care. The service can support up to 75 people and 55 people were living at the service at the time of our inspection.
At our last inspection, this service was rated good. At this inspection although we found some areas for improvement as noted in this report, the service remains good.
People sometimes went for longer periods of time without meaningful engagement from staff. Some people’s individual preferences were not always understood by the staff team and some people’s preferences were not met by the social past times on offer at the service. People who needed support to communicate were not always supported to speak about their experiences living at the service. Some aspects of medicines management were not safe. Staff did not always feel supported in relation to staffing levels at the service. There had been a lot of improvements at the service thanks to the support of the wider and senior management team. However, audits and governance measures at the service needed strengthening to ensure issues did not arise without significant support from the senior management team.
People were safe living at the service and staff were knowledgeable about safeguarding. There were enough staff to support people safely. People’s home environment was safe, and staff followed good infection and prevention control (IPC) procedures. People’s care plans and risk assessments were detailed about how to support them. Staff supported people to live healthy lives, for example making sure they drank enough or supporting them with pressure area care. People were supported in line with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). People told us staff were kind, and we observed staff supporting people with dignity and respect. Staff supported people to make choices in their day to day lives. People had some good experiences and outcomes living at the service. The provider and staff team supported people and their relatives exceptionally if the person needed end of life support. The senior management team had worked to improve the culture of the service and audits had been effective in starting to drive improvements at the service.
People's experience of this service
We observed some less good experiences for people in relation to not always having meaningful engagement from the staff team or not being supported to follow their interests or preferences. However, overall, people told us they were happy living at the service, and they felt the staff team were kind and compassionate. We observed people to be happy and relaxed whilst being supported by the staff team. For the most part, relatives described staff as kind and friendly and felt they knew their family member well. One person said, ‘‘I love living here. It feels like I have found where I need to be.’’ A relative told us, ‘‘The staff are all lovely and I know [family member] is very happy.’’
