Equity in access

Regulations met

Staff had carried out a disability access audit and had an action plan to continually improve access for patients.

Staff described the reasonable adjustments they had made to ensure the practice was accessible. The practice was wheelchair accessible, with a ground floor surgery and wheelchair accessible toilet. Large print materials were available for patients with visual impairments. Staff also spoke several languages including Lithuanian, Russian, German, Albanian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Italian, Mandarin, Tamil and Tagalog.

Staff were clear about the importance of providing emotional support to patients when delivering care. For example, offering longer appointments to help support patients with anxiety.

The practice supported more vulnerable members of society, for example, patients living with dementia or adults and children with a learning disability.

The practice displayed its opening hours and provided information on their website and in the practice.

The frequency of appointments was agreed between the dentist and the patient, giving due regard to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines.

The practice provided telephone numbers for patients needing emergency dental treatment during the working day and when the practice was not open.

At the time of our inspection, patients who needed an urgent appointment were offered one in a timely manner. When the practice was unable to offer an urgent appointment, they worked with partner organisations to support urgent access for patients.
