Our view of the service

Date of assessment 22 January to 5 February 2026.

Amber Lodge provides accommodation for up to 24 people living with dementia and those who require nursing and palliative care. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. At the time of the inspection there were 15 people living at the service. Accommodation is provided over 2 floors and people have access to communal areas.

This is the first assessment of the service. We carried out a comprehensive assessment. This assessment was unannounced.

Care and treatment was provided in a way that prioritised people’s safety and well-being. Staffing levels were sufficient to meet people’s needs and staff had been recruited following the appropriate checks. Staff had the necessary training and supervision to carry out their roles effectively, including supporting people to manage their medicines safely and appropriately.

People were encouraged and supported to make choices about their own lives and were cared for in a way that promoted independence and respected their best interests. Support was provided using the least restrictive approaches possible, and the service’s policies and procedures reflected this way of working.

The registered manager and deputy manager demonstrated effective oversight of the service and promoted a positive culture focused on learning and improvement. Systems were in place to monitor the quality of care and regularly review people’s experiences to ensure standards were maintained and improvements were made when needed.
