Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 21 August to 3 September 2025, the service is a care home providing nursing and personal care to 34 adults. At the time of the assessment there were 27 people using the service. The assessment was carried out in response to potential concerns from external professionals CQC had been notified of. We found multiple concerns relating to the care and treatment that people received. People did not receive person centred care and staff did not spend time with people outside of care tasks. Medicines were not always managed safely. Incidents were not managed safely and opportunities to learn from incidents and implement improvements were not taken. Governance processes were ineffective. Actions taken to address concerns raised were not always prioritised effectively. The provider did not always work effectively with external professionals to take the steps necessary to improve the service. Action was not always taken to safeguard people from the potential of abuse or poor care. We found 4 breaches of the legal regulations relating to person-centred care, consent, safe care and treatment, and governance.

In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded. This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provides a framework within which we use our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.

People's experience of this service

People gave mixed feedback on their experiences of care and support in the service. One person said, “Staff are nice”, a relative said “Staff are nice and try their best.” However, other people were unhappy saying they were ‘bored’ and ‘fed up’.

People could not recall being asked for feedback on their care and we found no effective system of gathering or acting on feedback from people.

People did not always experience positive engagement from staff. People were placed in areas of the home where the layout and space prevented conversation, engagement or opportunities for activity. People who were reliant upon staff to facilitate activities were often not provided with this. Our assessment of the layout and use of the home environment found it did not meet the expected standards.

Some people experienced care that was not in line with the principles of least restrictive practice. Where health issues or anxiety impacted upon how they were, responses often did not take account of other strategies, instead relying upon medicines to manage situations.

People’s past experiences or interests were not reflected in the care they were provided with.
