Our view of the service

Date of the assessment: 8 October 2025 to 3 November 2025

Maryville Care Home is a ‘care home’ with nursing. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. The service was registered for up to 39 older people. At the time of our assessment, 38 people were living at the service. The home is run by the Frances Taylor Foundation. The home provided support for people from the catholic faith community as well as people from other faith groups.

An assessment has been undertaken of a specialist service that is registered for use by autistic people or people with a learning disability. At the time of the assessment, the service was not used by anyone with a learning disability or an autistic person. However, we assessed the care provision under Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture, as it is registered as a specialist service for this population group.

The provider did not always ensure there were enough staff on duty to provide people’s care in an appropriate and timely manner. The checks and audits which were in place were not always robust enough to identify areas for improvement. The provider had developed risk assessments in relation to people’s health and wellbeing, but staff were not always provided with guidance on how to support people in relation to their medical conditions. The provider did not always ensure compliance with aspects of their infection, prevention and control practices. Issues were identified in relation to the environment of the home not being dementia friendly. Following the assessment the provider confirmed they were making improvements in relation to infection control, risk management and the home’s environment. The provider undertook investigations following incidents, accidents, safeguarding and complaints. Identified actions for improvement were shared with staff. Medicines were managed and administered as prescribed. The provider had a recruitment process which enabled them to identify suitable new staff. Staff felt supported by the registered manager and senior management.

Nothing has ever given us any concern about Maryville”, “They have really good activities, and they do put on different events on certain occasions” and “I love the place.
