Our view of the service

We carried out this announced, on-site inspection on 18 July 2025.

We found the practice had met all regulations.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

 

Chalkwell Dental Practice is part of Envisage, a dental group provider. The practice is in Chalkwell, Southend on Sea. The practice provides NHS dental care and treatment to adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice. Car parking spaces were available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice. The practice is located close to public transport links.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 19 staff, of which there were 6 dentists, 1 dental therapist/ hygienist, 2 dental hygienists, 6 dental nurses, of which 2 were trainees and one covered practice management, 2 receptionists, 1 administrator, and 1 receptionist / treatment coordinator.

We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. We also spoke with the group’s head of compliance.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any direct feedback.

We reviewed patient feedback gathered by the practice, and online feedback.

Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Patients commented that the staff team were caring, professional and helpful. They commented that they were very satisfied with the care and treatment they received. Patients said that they were welcomed and made to feel at ease when they visited the practice.

Patients said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

 

Patients said they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
