Our view of the service

Date of Assessment:17 December to19 December 2025. The service is a residential care home providing support to older people, people living with dementia and people living with a physical disability or sensory impairment. At the time of this inspection, 21people were being supported.

People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines safely and involved people in planning any changes.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Staff carried out risk assessments and regularly reviewed these.

People received kind and compassionate care. Staff protected and respected people’s privacy and dignity and understood and responded to their individual needs. People’s physical, emotional and social needs were holistically assessed and met. Care and treatment was based on current best practice and delivered in a coordinated way with involvement from other relevant organisations.

There was an open and transparent culture within the management team with a clear focus on providing good care. People and those important to them were involved in planning their care, where possible. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly.

Staff described a positive and open culture where they felt supported and able to raise concerns or suggestions. The provider had effective quality assurance and governance arrangements, ensuring consistent oversight and high standards of care. Concerns and complaints were managed appropriately. The registered managers reviewed feedback for trends and shared learning across the team to improve service delivery.

People's experience of this service

Throughout this inspection we saw all staff members were very helpful, welcoming, and very friendly, and there was a calm atmosphere around the whole building. We saw staff were constantly interacting with people being supported, very attentive and patient. It was clear staff demonstrated a genuine caring approach with all people.

We received positive feedback from people and their relatives regarding the quality of care provided. People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected people’s privacy and dignity and treated people as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way.

People looked very clean and tidy, with nicely laundered and very clean clothes. People said they chose themselves what they wished to wear for the day, and clothes were taken away to be washed and ironed. All people we spoke with told us they felt safe and staff attended to their needs when they needed them to. We observed staff attending to the needs of people and assisting them to the bathroom in a caring, patient, dignified, safe and supportive way.

All people told us they were happy and felt comfortable in speaking to staff about any needs they may have. A person said, “I am very comfortable here, it feels like home from home because that’s how everyone treats you. They [staff] do everything for you. I was comfortable from first coming in here; I was made to feel so very welcome.” A relative told us, “The care here is provided with dignity, and nothing phases them [staff] at all, everything is done and dusted. It’s not regimented; the physio comes in twice a week to do exercises with people to keep them mobile. They [staff] think of everything. [Person] is lucky to be here, and we are lucky to have [person] here.”

The provider worked to eliminate discrimination and people received fair and equal care and treatment. Staff worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care. A relative told us, “The staff are very good at working out who is best with who. [Person] likes to join in with the activities but can also sit in the lounge for peace when [they] want to. [Person] has a lot less anxieties in here than when at home and is very calm and settled. We come in 6 days per week, and the carers are absolutely brilliant, whatever the ethos the managers have got, and the way they recruit staff, they have a fantastic group of staff and even the laundry staff have a fantastic ethos.”
