Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 04 June 2026. Firstchoice Consultancy Ltd provides care to people living in their own home. At the time of the assessment, only one person was receiving support with personal care. No person was receiving care and support in supported living settings which the provider is also registered to provide care and support to people in their own homes. The service was last inspected 19 February 2018 was rated good at that time.
This was a planned assessment of all quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. As a result of this inspection, we have rated the service as good for safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led and good overall.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the time of the assessment, the service was not supporting any autistic people or people with a learning disability, but the provider had regard to ‘Right support, right care, and right culture’.
The care plan was well written. It included information about how to support the person and included their views about the support they wanted. The care plan was detailed, person-centred and easy for staff to follow. The person was at the centre of their care, they had capacity to make their own decisions, and these were recorded. The person was supported to live an independent life, and to take full control of their life.
Not all the risks were well managed effectively. Potential risks in the care environment were not always managed properly. We discussed this the registered manger and they completed relevant risk assessments following our recommendations.
Staff were well established and had worked for the provider for many years so knew the person well. The provider recruited staff safely that was in accordance with all current legislative requirements. Staff we spoke with understood the person’s needs and spoke warmly of their working relationship with them. Staff completed an induction at the beginning of their employment and received ongoing support through trainings and ongoing discussions. Staff reported having a positive relationship with the provider and felt communication was effective.
The provider had policies and procedures in place which were in line with legislative requirements. This meant staff possessed up to date information which kept the person safe and gave staff guidance on how to do their jobs.
Systems to monitor the quality and safety of the service were in place but they were not effective.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the care provided by Firstchoice Consultancy Ltd. People confirmed they were involved in making decisions about their care. People were engaged with the service and provided feedback about the care. They were happy with the service and overall support provided. A person said, “The service provider is doing well. I am happy with the service at the moment”. The provider also partnered with multi agency healthcare professionals to support the person. A healthcare professional said, “The organisation shows a clear understanding of best practice in adult social care, ensuring that care delivery is tailored to meet the specific needs, wishes, and outcomes of each individual”.
