Caring

Good

27 May 2026

Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

At our last assessment we rated this key question inadequate. At this assessment the rating has changed to good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

At the previous assessment the service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to how people were not supported in a person-centred way. The provider had made the required improvements and is no longer in breach of these regulations.

This service scored 65 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 2

We did not look at Kindness, compassion and dignity during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met their needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

People’s care plans contained detailed information about their strengths, unique characteristics, life history and communication needs. This meant staff could be guided by people’s care records to support people effectively. One staff member told us, “People are all different, I know people well and support everyone differently.”

There was a large selection of social activities. Staff actively engaged with people and encouraged them to join in. A person told us, “I really like the activities. If I don’t fancy joining in the main activity, staff support me to do something else.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

Care plans outlined what people could do for themselves and how staff could support people in being more independent. People had choice and control over their care. For example, we observed people choosing where they wished to sit, what they wished to eat and drink and what they wished to do. Staff offered people choices throughout the day and encouraged people to maintain their skills and independence. For example, a person who liked doing puzzles was supported to do as much as possible themselves. The person was clapping when they found the correct answer.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

We observed staff responding to people appropriately and in a timely way when they required support. Records showed call bells and motion sensors were responded to quickly.

People told us staff supported them when they needed it. For example, a person said, “Staff are amazing and supportive, and nothing is ever to much trouble.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement
