Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 28 April to 12 May 2026. This service is a care home providing personal care for up to 12 older people, some who may be living with physical and sensory disabilities and dementia. At the time of our assessment 9 people lived at Ivy House Residential Care Home.

This assessment was completed due to the length of time since the care home was registered with CQC.

We found 4 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to consent, safe care and treatment, governance at the service and recruitment practices.

Effective actions were not always taken to reduce the chances of accidents reoccurring or learning lessons from incidents. Medical advice had not always been obtained in a timely manner. However, people had access to the GP and visiting district nurse team.

People’s rights under the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) had not always been considered or upheld.

Care plans and risk assessments were not always clear and had not always involved people in decisions about how they wanted to manage any risks. Not all actions taken to care for people were detailed in their care plans.

Risks in the environment were not effectively identified and mitigated. Whilst we found the home to be clean, there were no audits in place to look for any shortfall in infection prevention and control processes and to make improvements.

Staff had not completed training in areas relevant to people’s care needs. Leaders had not always obtained their own Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks or obtained references to check staff conduct in previous employment when appointing staff. Not all risks associated with appointing staff and how they would be mitigated had been recorded.

Not all areas of practice followed good practice guidance. For example, food serving temperatures were not always recorded.

There was not an effective system in place to assess, monitor and improve the service and to assess, monitor and mitigate risks.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
