Our view of the service
Frognal House Care Home is a care home that can accommodate for up to 131 older people some of whom are living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 88 people living at the service. This location is dual registered. Dual registration is when a provider has stated, and is able to evidence, that at least two providers are both responsible for managing the regulated activities at a single location. CQC consider both providers to be reliable and legally responsible for carrying on of the regulated activity irrespective of any specific arrangements between them. This means that any default or breach by one provider is the responsibility of both providers. The two providers responsible for the location are; Willow Tower Opco 1 Limited and Willowbrook Healthcare Limited.
The assessment was carried out because of the length of time since our last comprehensive rating. The last rating for this service was Good (published 29 May 2021). Following this assessment, the service has remained Good.
At the time of our assessment there was a home manager in post who was in the process of registering to become the registered manager for the service. We also spoke with the deputy manager and the providers regional director. We spoke with 14 staff including care staff, chef, well-being staff and housekeeping team. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We found people were protected from risk of abuse and risks to people were managed well. People were treated with dignity and respect. There were enough staff to support people and meet their needs. People had access to health care professionals when they needed them, and they received their medicines safely. Care and treatment were delivered in line with best practice and assessments were regularly updated to ensure peoples personal choices, cultural needs and preferences were reflected. The service was well led, and leaders were visible, approachable and engaged well with people, their relatives and staff. Staff told us they felt valued and supported.
