Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 6 to 14 October 2025.
Willerby and Swanland Surgery is a GP practice in Anlaby, Hull. The practice delivers service to approximately 11,500 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The provider is registered with CQC to deliver the Regulated Activities; diagnostic and screening procedures, maternity and midwifery services, treatment of disease, disorder or injury and surgical procedures.
We assessed and rated this service under our previous methodology in December 2016. The practice was rated Good overall and in all key questions. Since this assessment the provider had moved to a new premises. This was the first assessment since the service had moved to a new premises. The practice has been rated good overall and for the key questions of Safe, Effective, Caring and Responsive. Well-led has been rated as requires improvement.
The National General Practice Profiles states that the ethnic make-up of the practice area was 95% white, 2.6% Asian, 0.36% mixed ethnicities, 0.31% Black and 0.64% other ethnicities. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 10th decile (10 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Feedback we received was positive about the appointment system and patients told us they were able to access appointments when they needed to. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were satisfied with services. In the majority of cases, results from the National GP Patient Survey were either in line with or above local and national averages. Results showed that 94% of patients described their overall experience of this GP practice as good, this was above the local average of 77% and the national average of 75%. There was an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service.
