Our view of the service

Salisbury House Residential home is a care home providing personal care for older adults, including those living with dementia. There were 36 people using the service at the time of the inspection. We carried out a site visit on 13 August 2026 with the remainder of the inspection being completed off site.

People were protected from the risk of abuse and harm. Risks to people were identified and measures were in place to help ensure people received safe care.

Staff were recruited safely and people were supported by a team of trained and experienced staff. Many of the staff had worked at the home for a long time and so knew people well.

People received medicines in a safe way, from staff who were trained and had their competency assessed.

Systems were in place for reporting any accidents and incidents and learning from them. Incidents were analysed for any trends and patterns to help reduce the risk of recurrence.

People’s support needs were assessed prior to their admission to help ensure their choices were fully understood and respected, and their needs could be met in full.

People’s care plans contained guidance for staff on how to provide personalised care and support to people. Care plans were reviewed regularly to ensure care and support were both relevant and effective.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People and family members were involved in decisions about care and support at every opportunity.

People were treated with kindness and compassion, and their privacy, dignity and independence were promoted and respected. Staff had developed strong relationships with both people and their families. People’s relatives were made to feel welcome by staff when they visited.

Processes were in place to ensure people and their significant others were able to express their views and opinions, in a variety of ways. People and their relatives were able to provide their feedback at any time.

The leadership of the service was underpinned by a culture which was committed to delivering high quality, safe and person-centred care in a family like environment. Governance processes were used to help identify any shortfalls in practice and monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service.

Both leaders and staff worked in conjunction with other external professionals, to help deliver the best possible care for people.

People's experience of this service

People living at Salisbury House Residential Home benefitted from a service which was committed to ensuring people’s experience of care was one which was positive and tailored to their needs, choices and preferences.

People told us they were supported by a core staff team who not only knew their care needs well, but who also knew people on a person-centred level, and were able to deliver care aligned to people’s unique characteristics and personalities.

People’s relatives also spoke positively about the standard of care and support their loved one received. Comments from relatives included, “It is absolutely fantastic, we couldn't get a better quality of care. Staff go above and beyond. Nothing is a problem and you really couldn't get better” and “I wouldn't have [Name] anywhere else. The staff are fantastic and the managers are very responsive.”

People’s uniqueness was celebrated with a ‘Star of the Month’ programme. Information about the person’s background, and who had they had been as a person prior to living at the home, was shared and celebrated through the home’s newsletter.
