Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 15 April 2025 to 6 June 2025.
We conducted this assessment because the practice had not been assessed since 2016. Since that time the provider had changed and the service did not have a current rating. We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led key questions.
The Blundellsands Surgery is a GP practice that delivers services from the location at 1 Warren Road Liverpool L23 6TZ to approximately 10,500 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states that the demographics of the population are mainly white British with approximately 5.6% Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 7th decile (7 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
People's experience of this service
The provider actively encouraged and used feedback from people using the service to make improvements. The feedback we reviewed showed that patient experiences were positive. Results from the National GP Patient Survey were mostly better than local and national averages, particularly around access to appointments.
Once patients secured an appointment, their satisfaction increased. Survey responses indicated that patients felt listened to, treated with care and concern, involved in decisions about their care, and had confidence in the healthcare professionals.
More recent feedback from the NHS Friends and Family Test was very positive, with 96% of respondents saying they would recommend the practice.
The Patient Participation Group (PPG) specific to the practice was small but was used to give patients and the practice the opportunity to meet and discuss topics of mutual interest about the practice. It also gave patients the opportunity to become more involved and make suggestions about the healthcare they received. Significant improvements to car parking and the exterior of the premises had been made because of input from the PPG.
