Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 30 April 2025 to 14 May 2025. Sid Bailey is a residential care home providing personal care to people. Some people were living with dementia. This was the first assessment. We assessed the service to award a rating. The management team consisted of excellent leaders who, along with a strong staff team, had the skills to deliver exceptional support to people. Managers were clear about their roles and were passionate about the support and leadership offered to people, which was centred around people and involved them to be at the heart of their own care. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. The management team investigated incidents thoroughly and learnt lessons when things went wrong. Risks associated with people’s care and support were identified and action taken to mitigate them. The service was clean and well maintained, with facilities to suit people living there. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Staff were supported by a highly motivated management team, who ensured staff received appropriate training. Staff competencies were reviewed to ensure staff provided safe care and support to enable people to achieve their goals. People received their medicines as prescribed and had access to healthcare professionals. Staff were exceptionally receptive of visitors to the home and made people feel welcomed. Staff provided care in an extremely compassionate and respectful way, ensuring people’s needs were met and their choices upheld.

People and their relatives spoke very highly of the home and the support they received. One relative said, “I can’t fault the carers they do everything so well.” Another relative said, “The home has wonderful staff who go out of their way supporting the residents.” People and relatives were highly complementary about how staff took care to ensure their privacy and dignity was maintained. One person said, “I love it here, the staff really do care and are very respectful.” People told us staff were mindful about closing doors and curtains to ensure their privacy was maintained. People felt safe living at the home and commented that staff would not let them come to any danger. One relative said, ‘I have no safety concerns, I feel they [family member] are in the best place.” Another relative said, “[Family member] is very safe. They [staff] carried out lots of risk assessment to ensure [family member] is safe. They [staff] always make sure [family member] has their stroller nearby.” We found there were sufficient staff available to meet people’s needs. One relative said, “No problems with staffing at all. When I visit there are plenty of staff on duty for me to speak to. They attend to [family member] straight away. I know there are plenty of staff as there is a board in the entrance which shows the staffing ratio each day.” People were engaged in lots of social events and activities which they had chosen. People were excited about taking part in events and enjoyed socialising. One relative said, “They [staff] do encourage [family member] to do extra things. The home will take people out for the day and next door [community centre] to do bingo and so on. They are always inviting people in to encourage the residents to take part in activities such as exercises. Recently somebody brought in reptiles which [family member] really enjoyed.” People and relatives knew the manager and had confidence in their ability to run the home effectively. One relative said, “The home is very well managed. The staff are a brilliant team, who all know the residents very well. They support relatives, taking charge of matters and sorting things out when needed. They can’t do enough to make families feel at ease, so they know the residents are getting the best care for their individual needs.”
