Assessing needs
People’s needs were assessed before they moved into Abi house and regularly reviewed to ensure they were receiving the right support. The assessment process included, where appropriate, consultation with other professionals involved in the person's care and family members. The most recent person to move in, confirmed they visited Abi house and met people and staff before they moved in. Their relative confirmed they were consulted and able to talk about the person’s history and preferences. Assessment information had been used to create a support plan for the person which was detailed and person centred.

Consent to care and treatment
People's capacity to make decisions had been considered when choices such as consent to care and treatment had been made and their right to take informed risks was respected. We observed staff carefully listening to people and offering gentle guidance when appropriate. For example, people told us they were asked about any treatment they may need and staff explained things to them, when needed their families were also spoken with.
