Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 22 July 2025.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Improvements should be made to ensure good governance and leadership are sustained in the longer term.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. However, these were not always followed.
Improvements were required to the systems to review and investigate incidents and accidents.
Sandon Dental Practice is in Chester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 7 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 29 staff, of which there were 7 dentists, 1 foundation dentist, 1 dental therapist, 3 dental hygienists, 6 qualified dental nurses, 6 trainee dental nurses, 1 treatment coordinator, 3 receptionists and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 2 dental nurses and the practice manager.
People's experience of this service
Prior to our visit, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 46 patients. Their responses provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, “Fantastic service, always friendly, helpful and highly professional. Make me feel at ease with procedures”, “Very clean practice and outstanding professional service. They always go above and beyond with patient care and follow up”, "Sandon Dental Practice truly embodies everything you would want from an excellent dental surgery. The environment if fantastic – super clean, well-organised, and the right balance of clinical and homely. They have an excellent warm and welcoming team” and “The dental practice is friendly and professional. I have always made to feel at ease. All my treatment has been well explained, and I feel completely comfortable and in safe hands”.
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
