Good

7 August 2025

Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

At our last assessment we rated this key question requires improvement. At this assessment the rating has changed to good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

The provider had made some improvements since the last inspection, and they were no longer in breach of legal regulations in relation to person centred care.

This service scored 65 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

Staff treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

People commented that the staff were, “Very kind,” and “They really care, I love it here.” Staff knew people well and we observed interactions which were kind and compassionate.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The staff treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met their needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Staff knew people well and understood their preferences and how they wanted and needed to be supported.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The staff promoted people’s independence, and supported people to have choice and control over their own support and wellbeing on a day-to-day basis.

Activities for people had improved and time was spent with people who remained in their rooms. However, there was a reliance on the activities co-ordinator for activities, and they did not work weekends or evenings.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 2

The provider did not always listen to and understand people’s needs, views and wishes.

People, and their legal representatives had not been involved in the planning of their care. Care records contained very limited information on people’s preferences and views on their care.

Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress despite there being no written strategies in care plans for how to support people when they were upset or anxious.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 2

The provider did not always promote the wellbeing of their staff.

There continued to be shortfalls in relation to the delivery of staff supervision and annual appraisals. The interim manager explained they would all be completed by the end of June 2025. However, this process needed to be embedded and consistently implemented. The regional manager said, “The absence of a long-term manager has impacted this. As an organisation we know the whole wellbeing package isn’t as good as it needs to be so this is being looked at in terms of how we make the offer to staff more attractive.”

Staff told us they felt well supported by the senior care staff.
