Our view of the service

Date of assessment 2 September 2025. The assessment was the provider’s first rated inspection and was prompted by a review of information we held about the provider.

St Andrew’s Healthcare 17 The Avenue is a care home with nursing, providing personal care and accommodation. The service supports 1 person with learning disabilities, mental health support needs who is deaf.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The person was supported to lead an active and fulfilling life and their routines, preferences, interests and hobbies, including social and community opportunities were met. The person was involved in discussions and decisions about their care and support.

Staff were observed to provide, kind, caring and compassionate support. We observed positive, meaningful and respectful engagement.

Staff were aware of safeguarding roles and responsibilities. The person’s communication needs were met with the support of interpreters and staff who had been trained to communicate using British Sign Language.

Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally.

People's experience of this service

The person using the service was positive about living at the service and the care and support they received from staff. This included feeling safe living at the service and how staff supported them to keep safe.

The person felt involved in discussions and decisions about their care and support and told us of the activities and routines that were important to them and how they were supported with these.

Communication with the person was done respectfully, using adapted communication and clear visual aids.

The service provided a personalised, compassionate, and risk-aware environment that promoted the person’s safety, dignity, and independence while embracing their communication and emotional needs.
