Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 28 April to 14 May 2025. Chartwell House is a residential care home providing support to adults who may be living with dementia, a physical disability or sensory impairment. The service was registered on 26 January 2023, and this was the first inspection. Potential risks to people’s health and welfare had been assessed, accidents had been recorded and there was guidance for staff to mitigate the risk. People received their medicines as prescribed, and staff worked with the GP to review medicines when people’s needs changed.
There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and staff received training appropriate to their role.There were effective systems to monitor the quality of the service and action was taken when shortfalls were found. The management team understood the importance of improving the service to support people’s wellbeing.
People's experience of this service
People and relatives told us the service kept them safe, and the staff were kind and compassionate. People had access to a variety of activities to suit their interests and skills. People went on trips out from the service and community groups including schools came into the service to spend time with people.
People and their relatives were involved as much as possible with decisions about their care and support. Staff referred people to healthcare professionals when their needs changed and followed the guidance provided to keep people well.People were supported to keep in touch with family and friends and were encouraged to visit at any time. People were encouraged to maintain their religious beliefs and there were regular services for people to attend.
