Our view of the service
Selly Park is a care home providing nursing for up to 50 people. The service is registered to provide support to older people, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability or sensory impairment and younger people.
People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. At the time of our inspection 27 people were living at the service who were in receipt of a regulated activity.
The inspection included unannounced visits to the service which took place on 13 May and 28 May 2026 and an announced visit that took place on the 14 May 2026.
The assessment was prompted in part following a review of information we held about the service and the length of time since the last inspection.
The inspection was prompted in part by concerns raised by Commissioners from the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and the local authority following their own visits to the service. We noted during the assessment the provider had taken on board the feedback from the commissioners and an action plan was in place to address the concerns raised.
People were supported by a group of staff who knew them well, many of whom had worked at the service for a number of years. Staff were aware of people’s care needs and the risks to them.
We found that some care plans did not contain adequate information to support staff in managing identified risks effectively. In addition, a number of environmental issues were identified during the assessment which had not been detected through the provider's internal audit systems.
The registered manager had been in post since September 2025 and had implemented several systems and processes to bring about positive change to service delivery. People, their loved ones and staff alike, all spoke positively of the changes introduced by the registered manager and the positive impact they had on the day to day running of the service. Several changes had been introduced at pace and further work was required which included further auditing of people’s care files to ensure they held the most up to date information regarding people’s care needs.
Staff felt supported, valued and were encouraged to take on additional learning to enhance their skills. The registered manager ensured staff were made aware of plans for the service and were supportive of the actions that were taking place.
The registered manager and the nominated individual were open and transparent during the inspection and took immediate action to address concerns raised.
People and their loved ones spoke highly of the service and shared several examples of how they were supported by a group of kind, compassionate and caring staff.
