Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. This was modelled by the leadership team. A staff member told us, “The manager supports us with briefing sessions and uplifts us, which really helps on hard shifts,” and a person said, “Yes [manager]is good, I like to see her and she will visit me in my room or if I ask one of the girls for some time [name] will visit me.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

Our observations confirmed the provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Staff were positive in empowering people to be as independent as possible and celebrated this. We observed staff interactions with people and staff listened and empowered people to have control over their lives.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. However, we did receive some negative feedback, and the provider demonstrated they had taken appropriate actions and had collaborated with the person to address any changing needs.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff members we spoke with told us they felt valued, respected and supported within their roles. A staff member said, “The staff team are good and we have implemented good culture. I have seen other staff call out other staff members and we have really good quality.” However, some staff did tell us about issues with staff calling to cancel shifts last minute which did have an impact on staff morale. We shared this feedback with the management, and they had already been working to resolve these issues and were supporting staff.
