Our view of the service

Dates of assessment: 2 June to 12 June 2026. Woodleigh Rest Home is a 33 bedded residential care home supporting older people, including people who may be living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 17 people living at the service.
The provider has made significant improvements since the previous inspection, where it was rated inadequate, and now provides generally good care and support. There was a clear culture of learning and improvement, with systems in place to review incidents and identify trends to reduce future risks. Leadership had strengthened, and both staff and people using the service spoke positively about the management team, describing them as approachable, supportive and responsive.
People told us they felt safe and well cared for, and we observed kind, respectful interactions throughout the inspection. Staff knew people well and supported their individual needs, with improved knowledge and confidence noted since the last assessment. Partnership working with healthcare professionals was effective, and people were supported to access services in a timely way.
Improvements had also been made to medicines management, governance systems and staff training. However, some areas required further development to ensure consistency. These included the accuracy of care records, oversight of safeguards such as Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, infection prevention and control practices, and governance systems to ensure risks were consistently identified and addressed. Parts of the environment also required improvement, as refurbishment work was not yet complete and some facilities required repair or updating.
The provider had demonstrated a commitment to improvement, and while further work was needed to embed changes fully, people were receiving safe, compassionate care from a dedicated staff team.
The provider was previously in breach of legal regulation in relation to good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation.
This service has been in Special Measures since 19 December 2025. The provider demonstrated improvements have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.

People's experience of this service

People and relatives spoke positively about their experiences of the service and consistently described it as a caring and supportive environment. People told us they were happy living at the home, with 1 person sharing, “I had been at another home before coming here and this is brilliant… I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Relationships between staff, people and their families were strong and valued, with 1 person describing, “They treat us like one of their own family. I suppose in a way we are as they spend so much time with us,” and a relative commenting, “Woodleigh is part of our family.”
Relatives were particularly positive about the support provided, not only to people using the service but also to themselves. One relative told us, “I am really impressed with the support given, not just to [person] but also to our family,” reflecting a holistic approach to care. Another relative said, “It may need a bit of redecoration, but the care is more important to me and that is first class,” highlighting the quality of care was prioritised and highly valued.
Feedback also showed staff supported people in ways which respected their identity and past roles. One relative explained how their family member, who had previously worked as a carer, was encouraged to help with small tasks, adding, “They [staff] are brilliant at pretending [person] is one of them. It means a lot to me,” which demonstrated thoughtful and meaningful engagement.
